Ubuntu 8.04 Feedback & Help 2 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Hello!

[edited text is in brackets]

First off, I would like to say, wow! Just wow! I played with this for a while and am really impressed. This is very fun and easy to use. Now, on to the problems.

I had the chance to play with Sandbox on Vista, XP and Ubuntu. Everything runs great on the windows versions on both counts. In ubuntu:

*Cursor is locked in center screen. It will not move about freely [when selecting menu options].

*Menu I'm guessing is in 3D. Cannot find or get to 2D menu option. Hard to navigate due to cursor being locked to center screen.

[*Grass does not fill map but is a circle around the avatar. Could be low settings, will have to play some more.][-Solved? Assuming this can be changed from commandline like the Cube 2 editor.]

*When looking about with the mouse, it seems to want to 'snap' into position..in other words...i move my mouse left, the view goes left, and when i stop the view goes to the right slightly as if snapping.

*Sometimes the mouse detection seems to get 'stuck'. Cursor wants to spin while in explore mode.

*On house map...Windows has mushrooms...Ubuntu no mushrooms. May be just different versions of the maps.

The mouse movement glitches COULD be related to touchpad, but the touchpad wasn't a problem in windows. Will get a usb mouse to further test this.

Ubuntu 8.04 - 32 Bit
Gnome Desktop
ATI 1100 Radeon Xpress (integrated)
AMD 2.0
System fully updated including ATI Drivers

Thanks,
Upo.

PS. This really is an awesome application! Hope some of this helps...oh and if I goofed something or something I missed and need pointed in the right direction would be much appreciated. Searched the wiki and came up lacking for info and such.

the cursor is fixed to centre of the screen when gui2d is false, and the menu also an _object_ at the fixed position, it's not exactly very hard to navigate. though, you can try typing /gui2d 1 in the ingame console (press T)

[*Grass does not fill map but is a circle around the avatar. Could be low settings, will have to play some more.][-Solved? Assuming this can be changed from commandline like the Cube 2 editor.]

you're right, and slightly wrong, it's more of a semi-circle around the camera, it should be like that on both windows and linux. I've yet to find anything that extends it in both directions.

*When looking about with the mouse, it seems to want to 'snap' into position..in other words...i move my mouse left, the view goes left, and when i stop the view goes to the right slightly as if snapping.

The cursor does snap to the very centre of the screen each _frame_, the right movement may be some feedback from the touchpad, I'm not sure though.
*Sometimes the mouse detection seems to get 'stuck'. Cursor wants to spin while in explore mode.

The only time I've had the mouse "stuck" is when I launch sandbox in windowed mode. just move it around wildly till it moves (you need to move it outside the window). I'm not too sure what you mean by the latter half though

*On house map...Windows has mushrooms...Ubuntu no mushrooms. May be just different versions of the maps.

Check them in editmode, it sounds like the ubuntu versions is missing the mapmodel entities (hence, different versions as you said)

Great! Thanks for the tips and information . And, sorry, meant the camera spins due to stuck cursor. Poor wording on my part. I will do the the gui2d command...that should help out a lot!
