Get Well Remedies 1 Year, 6 Months ago
Not feeling well? I have a few techniques that I use to help me get over a cold quickly. I used to get strep throat without fail every winter but since I stopped taking medicine for it and used these techniques I've never gotten strep since. I have still gotten sick at times but it is much more infrequently and I overcome it faster than I used to.

And of course the disclaimer: As a note my techniques are certainly not medical fact and not a substitute for medical treatment. Use at your own risk and I won't be held accountable for anything mentioned here.

1) The most important thing is to get lots of rest and liquid. I personally drink Gatorade since it is good at hydrating the body. When resting make sure that you are warm! I wear pants and a sweatshirt so that even if I fall out of my blankets I'm still warm. This is vital because if you are cold when you are sleeping you'll get sicker.

2) Get lots of vitamin C. What I personally do is buy 2 Liter juice drinks at walmart that only cost a dollar. That is a lot of juice for only a dollar. Each serving has 100% of the daily values of vitamin C and there are 8 in each container. Also I recently have begun drinking some antioxidant green tea that has 100% vitamin C with each bag.

3) Take hot, steamy showers! I don't mean boil yourself alive, but make sure they are at least hot enough to generate steam. The steam helps to clear your lungs and the warm water helps to warm up and energize your body.

4) Consume warm food. This is really important because it helps warm up your body which you need. I personally drink lots of hot cocoa and tea.

5) If you any mucus building up in in your throat and/or a sinus infection I think it is really important to keep your mouth clean. Make sure to brush your teeth and I rinse my mouth out with Listerine and gargle with it. Gargling with Listerine really helps to kill those bad germs that collect at the back of your throat. I think that it is especially important to rinse with Listerine before you go to bed to help slow down the buildup of any germs.

So that's it for being sick. If I have a headache then I add step 6.

6) Turn the faucet on and turn the water as hot as you can stand it. Then put the water on a cloth or paper towel. Then apply the paper towel to your forehead and massage it. Sometimes this takes more than one try. Also I take hot showers and let the hot water hit my forehead.

I hope these techniques help you out! Take care and good luck.
-Mike

The hot water on the forhead for headaches really does work. I get horrible headaches quiet often and soaking my head in a hot tub of water seems to allievate some of the pain.
